Grain allergies are much less common than animal protein allergies. Environmental allergies frequently accompany food allergies. A Few Other Considerationsĭogs who do have true food allergies are often allergic to more than one food protein. A diet that is different in its nutritional makeup is often enough to cause an allergy or intolerance to subside. From there, your vet will recommend an elimination diet to identify the underlying food protein that is causing an allergic reaction. If your dog is in the midst of an acute allergic reaction, the most common treatment is to offer an antihistamine. At the vet, your canine will likely need blood tests and other allergy tests to determine the source of the symptoms. Since itchy skin can be a sign that your dog has fleas or any number of health conditions, it’s recommended that you bring your pup in to see your local vet. Other signs your pup might be struggling with his food include: While dog food allergies impact a very small percentage of pets (1-2%), one in five dogs that visit the vet for itchy and irritated skin show signs of adverse food reactions. When a food protein is identified as a foreign substance, it triggers the immune system to release something called histamines. There are two versions, the first is Swedish and the second American – I prefer the original, Swedish version. Let the Right One In is my favourite film. Laurence Fishburne is terrific as Morpheus, and Keanu Reeves is excellent, but the best thing about the film is the special effects. Morpheus explains to Neo that what he thinks of as real is actually fiction and the world is run by evil machines who have imprisoned and tricked the human race. One day he is contacted by a woman who introduces him to a very strange man: Morpheus. It's about this ordinary man, Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, who works with computers during the day and is a hacker at night. Even though it was made back in 1999, it still feels really modern. It's not a very recent film, but I love Pride and Prejudice – the version with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy. Bond is also a bit different – although he does amazing things, he seems older and that makes him more human and the story more realistic. It's really well filmed, especially in the scenes which are shot in Shanghai and Scotland, and it's really exciting, of course. The story is more important, although there is still a lot of action. It's a bit different to other Bond films. They're both great, and so is Judi Dench as M, Bond's boss. It stars Daniel Craig again and Javier Bardem is this really evil baddie. An even texture indicates that the visual weights of the individual letters are well-balanced. So when you set a block of text in a given typeface, that block of text should have an overall even texture. A good typeface lets those inherent differences between letters shine through, while maintaining harmony between all of the letters. If letters didn’t differ from one another, we wouldn’t be able to read them and get information from them. For example, an “x” is totally different from an “i.” That’s the very basis of letters. Each letter is inherently different from other letters. Letters do the job of conveying language. Instead, I mean the “texture” of an overall block of text set in Papyrus. I don’t mean the “texture” in the sense of the various nicks or scratches on the edges of Papyrus letters. ![]() One of the most important fundamentals by which to analyze a typeface is that of texture. Keep in mind that Papyrus is what you would call a “display” font, which means it was never intended to be used in blocks of body copy in the first place – not that that has stopped anyone from using it for their term paper on ancient Mesopotamian economics.Įven though Papyrus is a display font, seeing it set in body copy still helps us analyze how well it balances visual weight. Here I’ve set blocks of body copy in Papyrus, Garamond, and Comic Sans. ![]() So, I set out to compare and contrast the qualities of Comic Sans and Papyrus with the qualities of the most beloved typeface – Garamond. If Papyrus is the second-most hated font, next to Comic Sans, it makes sense to define Papyrus’s “bad”-ness in comparison with Comic Sans. Surprisingly, I didn’t find this to be true. If it’s so hated, clearly it must be lacking in fundamentals. To start off, let’s look at Papyrus’s fundamentals as a typeface. The surprisingly solid typographic fundamentals of Papyrus One that sends an important message about the potential downfall of civilization. I believe that James Cameron’s use of Papyrus was an artistic choice. And no, not necessarily because of any aesthetic quality the font has. The most surprising finding of all was that Papyrus could potentially be the perfect font for the film Avatar. There were things I learned about Papyrus that deepened my dislike of the font, but there were other things that helped me appreciate it. (I wish I was kidding.) I’ve edited it down to this long blog post. I spent over a year writing a novel’s worth of words trying to untangle the mess. So, I set about the arduous task of breaking down Why You Hate Papyrus. It’s another thing entirely for it to be used to represent what would become the top-grossing movie of all time. It’s one thing for Papyrus to be used on the sign of a strip-mall bakery. ![]() There are many different types of accent lights you can add to your main lighting grid layout. When we tested different layouts in our plan, lining up the ceiling lights with the pendants looked the most natural and didn’t change the even grid very much. You can see that this means there is not exact spacing between each ceiling light, but it is close. We saw that we needed to adjust the placement of the down lights ever so slightly so that they lined up with the pendants. Next we added pendant lights over the kitchen island as a lighting accent and to provide decoration via material finish and color options. (You might have a pencil drawing of your room which can work just fine if you draw the ceiling to scale.) We placed the main down lights in a grid across the ceiling. First, we used a graphic of a circle-in-a-square to indicate each down light in our kitchen layout plan. Take for example this kitchen that we are currently working on. Use your drawing to pencil in a lighting layout – does it look like a mostly evenly-spaced pattern, or does it look like Swiss cheese? It can sometimes help to create some concentration over high activity areas, but only if the spacing feels natural and does not deviate too far from an even grid. ![]() This is the standard baseline for installing ambient lighting. The first step is to use your scaled drawing to divide up the ceiling into even parts, with about 36”-42” of space between each light. So don’t create clusters of lights over each space in your family room! Although your furniture may be grouped to create the feel of separate areas within your room, like a sofa and TV area next to a few arm chairs with a side table area, your lighting should not be. You want the ceiling lights to be evenly-spaced throughout, rather than grouped over furniture areas like many people attempt. To get started, create a scaled drawing of your room if possible. If you just have a single fixture, the layout is going to be easy – put it in the center of the room. For this type of lighting layout, you are most likely using architectural lights (recessed cans or down-lights) as part of the lighting design. An example is this nice evenly-lit entry by Honolulu Interior Designers & Decorators Philpotts Interiors. The best way to set up a lighting fixture layout for a room in your home is based on the ceiling space and creating an established grid. ![]() Will Dak Prescott’s fantasy managers see any more 20+ point games from him this season? The silver lining is that Watson ran the ball seven times for 21 yards against the Texans, so he does have another path to fantasy points, but the reality is most fantasy managers should consider sitting him until he shows that he can get more than this out of the Browns passing attack. There should be some credit given to a Houston defense that ranks seventh in fantasy pass points allowed since Week 10, but that doesn’t portend well against a schedule that has Cleveland facing three teams that rank in the top 11 in that same category. That is the third lowest scoring game of his career and is a major concern given the volume of quality offensive talent around him. No reasonable fantasy manager had sky high expectations for Watson’s first game out of the gate, especially since it was in Houston, but few probably thought there would be a 5.34-point floor for Watson. Is Deshaun Watson already a sit candidate after a terrible game against Houston? That may keep him in the flex tier as he was this week, but since he has posted 10+ points all but two games this year, some red-rated matchups aren’t likely to be enough to keep Higgins out of lineups. The bigger concern is the rest of season matchups, as Higgins has three red-rated cornerbacks on the remainder of his fantasy season schedule. ![]() This could be construed as a concern since it dovetails with the return of Ja’Marr Chase, but Higgins still led the team in overall routes run and routes run on vertical passes. ![]() Higgins posted a solid 12.5 points against the Chiefs, so he wasn’t a lineup liability by any stretch, but he saw only five targets on the day, which is his lowest total in that category since Week 1. Should fantasy managers be concerned that Tee Higgins only caught three passes against the Chiefs? This shows he is trending as a top tight end over the past month and change and when that is merged with two yellow-rated and one green-rated matchup in last Bears last three games of the fantasy season, it means Kmet is a trustable start option. One of those games was against the Packers in Week 13 and Kmet has posted his three games of 13+ in the past five weeks. That doesn’t seem like much, but it makes him one of only 13 tight ends to make that claim. Kmet has three games with 13+ points this year. To get an idea of just how few quality start candidates are available at tight end, consider this. Will Cole Kmet be a trustable start option after the Bears Week 14 bye? Were this any other offense, it might mean strong sit status for these three, as committees are anathema for fantasy running backs, but in this offense it means that, barring the favorable rush defense matchup in Week 16 against Chicago, Singletary and Cook will likely cap out as mid-tier RB2 candidates. The saving grace here may be that Hines only saw two targets, which equaled Singletary in that category and was well behind Cook’s six targets. This looks like a pure committee setup, as Singletary, Cook, and Nyheim Hines all had double-digit snap counts in pass snaps, rush snaps, and routes. Mark Andrews hasn’t been an impact player since his injury in Weeks 7-8, but he has been a solid TE1 in what is a weak tight end class, so odds he’ll retain that value with two green-rated, one yellow-rated, and one red-rated matchup coming up. We love how Rizzoli have created yet another insightfully curated book with fashion-filled chapters devoted to Takahashi’s sketches, graphic work, collaborations, and most innovative designs to date. With a combination of distinct punk influences and the finest Japanese craftsmanship, the label has amassed somewhat of a cult at home and abroad, yet unlike many of his fellow Harajuku heavyweights, designer Jun Takahashi remains slightly more mysterious making the brand that much more fascinating. UNDERCOVER has been at the forefront of Japanese streetwear for over a decade now. Make sure to get it (pre-0rdered) soon, as it will sell out in no time once its released. Seeing the deeply emotional vision of the designer, stretching over 27 years, collected in the elegantly designed book, makes one realize how profound and influential the vision of Takahashi was and still is, which makes this book by Rizzoli a must have. The violent rending and hasty reassembly that characterized his early work, its calculated imperfections and sutured seams, have given way to collections that he himself now calls “sexy and feminine.” ![]() But Takahashi would blaze an entirely different path to legend and notoriety. A fixture of the Paris collections for more than ten years-plus seventeen uninterrupted seasons in Tokyo prior to that-Takahashi’s life’s work confirms a maturation from self-conscious artifice and rebel pastiche to a steely, withering elegance all his own. Hailing from Gunma Prefecture like his friend NIGO, Takahashi’s long association with the undisputed king of Ura-Harajuku in the early 1990s is now the stuff of local fashion lore. While not quite populist, his generative influences are instead romantic -sometimes even gothic. Although all three have (and still do) played an integral rol in this second wave of worldwide influential Japanese fashion design succeeding the designers of the Eighties, it is arguable that Takahashi has left the biggest or most resonating mark on ‘the culture’, especially from the moment some years ago when he started his still ongoing collaboration with Nike for the GYAKUSOU line, which stayed very close to his creative vision, but introduced his designs to a much larger audience than his own labels.įrom the very beginning of his rise, the fashion of Takahashi is not born out of an excessively intellectualized agenda. Takahashi -together with two Japanese designers who were also granted Rizzoli publications on their work: NIGO of A Bathing Ape and Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design and the recent (temporary) cutting-edge retail concepts The Pool Aoyama (now closed) and THE PARK – ING (opened since April)- is an icon of Harajuku streetwear and the presumptive heir to the heavy mantle of Japanese deconstruction (officially crowned by Rei Kawakubo herself). Next month, on the 12th of July, American publisher Rizzoli will add another fashion orientated publication to its excellent catalogue with the release of the very first comprehensive book on the work of Japanese avant-garde punk designer Jun Takahashi of UNDERCOVER - which we discovered through our good friend Samuel de Goede (make sure to subscribe to his weekly newsletter for more tips like this!). |
